Tasting Notes:
One of Washington States less recognized grape varietal is the Souzao, this varietal hails from Portugal but thrives in Washington State, especially in the Red Heaven Vineyard on Red Mountain. The hot days and cool nights on Red Mountain allow this grape to fully ripen, yet the cool nights allow the grapes acidity to be expressive and balanced. The wine displays an intense, deep, dark ruby color that offers complex aromatics of black currant, bing cherries, ripe plums and milk chocolate. The mid-palate and finish are perfect examples of how this varietal will flourish in Washington State as it shows off its balanced acidity, integration of oak and fruit all followed by very lush tannins and a silky smooth finish that lasts and lasts. Enjoy now through 2019
